Marco was born in Rome (Italy) in 1966 and, throughout his childhood, he was an introverted and frightened child completely devoid of interest in anything around him, including hot chicks. His mother, in the attempt to shake him, initiated him into music with some 45rpm of the Beatles, Elton John, Paul Anka and Elvis. After spending some years hopping between various Italian cities (Bologna, Foggia, Perugia) because of his father’s job, Marco finally comes back to Rome.
At the age 14, he falls in love with the rock'n'roll of Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis and decided to buy his first guitar. Marco didn’t know much about musical instruments, so he bought a cheap classic guitar that he wound up destroying. In fact, disgusted by the sound of the nylon strings, he would continue to put metal strings on the guitar and this “uncommon” practice eventually lead to the destruction of the delicate guitar neck. While getting sick and tired of his unsuccessful musical attempts, he progressively got interested in the Rolling Stones and then in punk rock.
On a cold afternoon of January 1980, Marco realized that he had no other choice: to emulate his idol Keith Richards, it was time to buy a used Fender Telecaster. He bought one and, during an intimate ceremony that still brings tears to his eyes, he swore never to use another guitar ever again.
Eager to improve his musical skills, Marco also started guitar lessons with a jazz guitar master. The only thing Marco learnt from this experience was a profound sense of disgust for jazz, a musical genre to which Marco will late dedicate one of his well-known songs: “Jazz is boring”. Inspired by the Ramones and the X, Marco then decided to continue his guitar studies by himself.
As he started high school, Marco wanted to form a band to raise his chances of getting laid. By convincing himself to sing and his 11 years old brother Max to become a drummer, Marco started the basis of the band that he will lead until 1998: the “Overlord”. Marco and his brother Max were soon joined by the unsettling feminine presence of Elena who played the bass guitar and loved to wear leather boots. The band recorded an LP, a 45rpm, a CD and, during the early 90s, went through an intense “live” activity which culminated with a France tour.
Marco grows up and, after many tribulations, eventually graduates in law. The Overlord broke up in early 1998 and, at the same time, Marco moved to Tuscany to start a new job. While living there for three years, he joins the punk band “Doo Doo Drivers” and with them he records a devastating 45rpm that to this day still gives him nightmares.
Marco goes back to Rome in 2002, where he immediately creates the core of the “Boomers” with his friend Fausto on drums, and with a guitar and bass players that shortly after left the band. After going through the disappointment of seeing two more bass guitar players leave the band, the bass role was ultimately suppressed. The band finally stabilizes when the Sardinian guitar player Alessandro joins the group.
Apart from rock’n’roll, Marco’s primary interests are the noble Martial Art of Wing Chun Kung Fu, gourmet food (Marco is the President of a gastronomic club), science fiction books and movies.
Marco works in the Italian Public Administration, is married with Francesca (his high school sweetheart), has three sons: Andrea (9), Alice (6) and Arianna (2) and, after all these years, is still faithful to his old Fender Telecaster.
